Our weekend was busy and upon reflection filled with many new beginnings and firsts…..
My ‘big' girl began her first casual shifts with Woolworths and will now experience the satisfaction of earning , saving and spending her own money. Hopefully i have been able to instill some frugal skills and i'm sure after the initial excitement and novelty wears off she will settle into sensible habits.
In uniform ready and willing!
We also enjoyed a visit from my Mum down from Brisbane (QLD) and the girls enjoyed having their Gran at the park for the first time!
I'm thinking about where to go next Gran!
Both girls are now really enjoying using open spaces to test out those gross motor skills…trouble is they usally do this in opposite directions so it was nice to have helping hands close by for a change…so much less stressful!
Ruby going one way…..
and Tara the other….
I have really begun to notice just what a little thinker Tara is….she is so curious about how things work and will spend quite some time touching, turning things over and generally investigating until she gets to a place she seems satisfied with. You can almost see the cogs turning and it is fascinating to watch!
Here she wasn't so much interested in spinning the balls but the fact that someone (unfortunately) had burnt some of them and this had left them ‘different' and with bumpy, black textures to ponder over.
This weekend is also the start of a new beginning for me as when i saw some of the photos of myself in the park i was really shocked. I knew i was putting on weight….but i hadn't really been ‘seeing' myself i don't think. I am not healthy and i fear not a good role model for my girls at the moment. Unfortunately i am one of those people who eat their emotions and stress and i know it has to stop. I don't want to be skinny…just healthy. Only i can do this and although i have made many halfhearted attempts in this past year to lose weight, the photos have really stirred something inside me and i want to get better. It seems ironic that i used to manage large stressful projects and meet goals and timelines but i can't seem to commit to losing this weight once and for all.
Well, i am embarking on a journey now….not a diet (done them all trust me!) but a healthier lifestyle. I know what i need to do…i just have to do it. I'll let you know how i am going…maybe this public blog will end up being a motivator…. who knows?
One of the photos that shocked me…no wonder my feet are sore!
The chookies also got some running around time on the weekend and seemed happy to play with Tara although Ruby was a little more wary! It's good to be able to let them wander now we have most of the fencing completed….they really are funny little characters aren't they?
Everyone's outside time was cut short by the storm rolling in over Lismore….lucky we only caught the edge of it though and it did bring a lovely cool change through after such a hot day!
I hope you all had a nice weekend and perhaps the start of some new beginnings too…….

Hi Jode. Funny you should be talking about eating healthily. My husband and I have just been talking about the same issue. Over time we have slowly been putting on weight. It creeps up on you, doesn’t it? So over the weekend we have made a promise to ourselves to cut down on our treats and we are both trying to exercise more. We are going to have one day only a week where we can have a treat. I am just home from Woollies and it was hard, but I didn’t buy a chocolate. Chocolate is my weakness. Now to curb the munchies I am eating a bowl of organic popcorn that I cooked with only a little bit of oil. Congrats to your daughter with her job. xxoo

Hi Julie (aka MamaM!)I think summer always makes us think of getting healthier…all that skin to expose i think! i’m trying for the once a week treat day too, just need one day to ‘let go’ within reason of course! My weakness is cheese and savoury snacks…can say no to chocolate no worries thank goodness!
Well done on just going the organic popcorn…i think that even sounds yummier!Good luck to you both on your quest and thanks for dropping by!
