Thoughts of technology and rice!

Goodness, this time of year just engulfs one doesn't it? I have found myself so busy with sewing projects and  my ‘to do' list that i have had to put some things on the ‘to do when i can' list…..including this blog and visiting others blogs to see what everyone else is up to!!

I have missed being a part of blogworld but family has had to take priority…i am sure you have all been there. I must say a hello to those who have popped over from printerest though…so many visitors in such a short space of time just from a few people ‘pinning' one of the girls art activities. I must say i had heard of pinterest but not fully understood the concept until i wandered by for a proper look. Such inspiration and creativity…but also a huge time committment. I could just look at peoples' pinboards all day!

I sometimes feel as though i am on the wrong path as i don't seem to be embracing all that technology is offering these days. I have no desire to own an ipod or phone that can download apps….i don't want to be connected to technology every second and i don't want to always be contactable. We don't update our electrical gadgets every year, we don't buy gaming systems and although i have joined facebook i am yet to see the attraction or have the desire to be on there every second! Do i sound like one of those grumpy old women? I don't mean to, i just honestly don't understand this drive to be constantly ‘connected' and i wonder whether this is detrimental to family life or a help?Will we get left behind or struggle to catch up to what we are ‘meant' to be buying? What will the toddler twosome ‘need' or be a part of when they are just 5?

Gosh…didn't mean to get so deep, these thoughts were actually prompted by looking through some junk mail tonight and not even understanding what half the electrical and phone gadgets (hmmm, there's an ‘old' word for you!) were and then i began wondering if we had to ‘have' some of these items and whether we were being left behind! Everything seems to be moving at such a rapid pace now….or am i just older and my parents said the exact same thing when i was a teenager in the 80's? Have you embraced technology? What items work well for your family and what do you prefer to live without?I'd be so interested if you would like to leave a comment!

On a lighter note we have had fun with rice in the last few days…firstly playing with it and then eating it!!
The toddler twosome absolutely love their tub of dry rice and pasta to play with and have had fun running it through their fingers, filling cups, making holes, ‘feeding' to the ants and of course tasting! I love to sit there with them on the mat and just play….a great activity for anyone that is stressed and the wonder in their eyes is something to behold……

We also had fun with cooked rice as I  rediscovered an old favourite recipe for baked rice pudding. I grew up on this as a child (well perhaps an overstatement there but you know what i mean!!!) I wanted to begin sharing it with the girls and was happy to find the original recipe Mum used to use in my old Women's weekly original cookbook…that book has a recipe for everything! It's so very simple and one most people probably already know but i shall share my piece of nostalgia with you….
